I liked the recipes in the eggplant cookbook by this author, so I figured I would enjoy this cabbage cookbook as well. Unfortunately, this cookbook did not have a lot recipes that fit the flavor profile that we have. A lot of recipes with bacon, many recipes are quite sweet, mackerel and cabbage combination also did not work for us. So far the recipe that was successful is Cabbage Pancakes.

I liked that each recipe included prep time and cook time as well as the number of servings. The recipe organization can be improved by starting each recipe on a new page so they don't require a page flip when the hands are dirty. In this book all recipes run one after another. The book has no images of either preparation or the final dish. I also would have liked to see photos for each recipe. Finally, there are some typos and some editorial issues.

Cabbage The Ultimate Recipe Guide edition by Jonathan Doue Encore Books Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

This ebook has no pictures but it does contain some delicious ways to add cabbage to your diet and a very detailed introduction on healthy benefits of eating cabbage and the vitamins it provides.
I love cabbage and enjoy the health benefits of it, but it seems that sometimes it seems like it's always the same recipe and new recipes are sometimes very bland. The recipes in this book are so varied that it makes it easy to eat cabbage regularly yet not feel like it is the "same old same old". Great recipe book for an excellent price.
Cabbage - that is. My favorite recipe so far is the 3rd in the book - Fried Cabbage. Sounds good, tastes better. And a word for the main ingredient - I'm a diabetic and cabbage does not affect my blood sugar in any way. Win win!
Haven't try the recipes yet. Judging the content of the recipes they do not inspire me to try anything. Sad face. And I love cabbage!
The recipes I've tried are very good, but there are only 31 of them. The book needs photos of the recipes. Formatting is amateurish which is usually the case in these self published books. For a book that calls itself the ultimate guide on cabbage there are glaring dishes missing.
I didn't know Cabbage Rolls would become "logs" and then turn into "tamales".

I love cabbage because it is economical, easy to cook, works raw as well as cooked and mixes with all meats. Well, I wasn't overly enthused by the mixing of cabbage with mackerel but that's about the only thing I didn't think would be tasty combination. Not one I will try.

Whoever proofed this book for mistakes should be relieved of that responsibility because they did a terrible job. Too many run on words, duplicate listings of the same ingredient and confusing directions. I could eventually figure what they really meant but I like my cookbooks easier to comprehend the first time without having to study and decipher the recipe.

Oh, about those "tamales". They are just cabbage rolls or "logs" as the author calls them so I'm not sure why he would also throw in the word "tamales". Tamales are a very specific Central American Indian word and absolutely nothing like cabbage"logs" or rolls.

I also don't understand the need to cook them for 1 hour in a pressure cooker and then follow that up with an additional 4 hours in a slow cooker! What kind of tough cabbage does he have in his neighborhood store that requires 5 hours of cooking! Also, the recipe says it cooks in 1 hour so I guess the extra 4 hours in the slow cooker was just another editing mistake.

A lot of the recipes are for a LOT of servings. "Puffy Ground Beef Cabbage" takes another 4 hours to cook and is really just a juicy bowl of cabbage rolls. Everything is really "cooked" before the rolls are put together so I don't understand the need for an additional 3 hours of cooking. But I never could figure out how one can "stitch the rolls every half hour." That one totally escaped me.

He also sticks sugar into almost every recipe. That can and should be left out because cooked cabbage by itself tastes sweet. Maybe when he puts in vinegar, one needs the sugar to balance the acid bite to the vinegar. But not every recipe has vinegar in it.

Maybe the doctor should stick to patient care and let someone else write the cook books.
Apparently I love cabbage, as I keep my eyes open for eBooks on this vegetable! My family grew up on most all vegetables and cabbage was a staple. Some of the recipes in these books can be overly exotic, but in my family there is a thing call improvisation and we will make the recipes our own. Good book.
